The Southwestern Ohio Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association was developed in 1954 as a chapter of the American Association of Hospital Accountants. There were 33 charter members enrolled that first year.
One note of interest is that this was a free spending group. Regular sessions were held at the meeting room of local hospitals to cut expenses and the initial treasurer’s report
showed a positive balance of $83.
We have the pleasure of retaining one of the charter members as a member in the chapter. This active charter member is:

| 1958 | Local T.V. program run by chapter. |
| 1966-67 | The chapter tackled the re-education program needed because of Medicare inception. |
| 1968 | The change of name from American Association of Hospital Accountants to the Hospital Financial Management Association. |
| 1968 | Chapter bylaws changed to incorporate the position of president-elect. |
| 1969 | Qualified for Graham Davis award consideration for the first time since 1960. |
| 1975-76 | First Annual Chapter Institute held May 20 & 21, 1976 in Cincinnati, OH |
| 1976-77 | Received Honors Award for outstanding public relations project. |
| 1978-79 | Special National HFMA Recognition Award for Chapter Handbook. |
| 1979-80 | Silver Anniversary Year. |
| 1980-81 | Received a special GLD Medallion in recognition of 10 years in the GLD Club. |
| 1981-82 | National name changed to Healthcare Financial Management Association. |
| 1983-84 | Received thirty year chapter award, outstanding public relations project award, and second runner-up in the STAGL league for GLD, First Annual Sports Outing. |
| 1984-85 | Tenth annual May institute. |
| 1986-87 | Received Membership Service Plan Award and 40th Anniversary. |
| 1987-88 | Received Honorable Mention Task Force Award and Premier Event of the Executive Forum. |
| 1988-89 | Cooperative Educational Programming with Greater Cincinnati Patient Account Managers Association. |
| 1989-90 | Received Award for Membership Service Plan for the Gerald League. |
| 1990-91 | Communications showcase as evidenced by the first color photo in the Newsletter and Honorable Mention for the Membership Service Plan. |
| 1991-92 | Cooperative Education Programming with Kentucky Chapter of HFMA Greater Cincinnati Hospital Council. |
| 1992-93 | Received award for Membership Service Plan for Gerald League. |
| 1993-94 | Annual Golf Outing named in honor of Tom Maggart. |
| 1994-95 | Established Managed Care Forum. |
| 1995-96 | Received National HFMA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Membership Recruitment. Achieved major restructuring of Corporate Sponsorship Program. |
| 1996-97 | 50th anniversary year of HFMA. |
| 1997-98 | C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement. |
| 1998-99 | Implementation of Education Forum Series. |
| 1999-2000 | The C. Henry Hottum Gold Award for Significant Improvement in Educational Performance, The Silver Award of Excellence for Certification |
| 2001-02 | The C. Henry Hottum Award for Excellence in Educational Performance Improvement. Registration hours increased by over 70%. |
